High School 2023-2024 Staff

RECRUITING COORDINATOR - BOB LAFFEY

Bob Laffey will be responsible for working with our youth and high school players with the recruiting process.  In addition, he will be the direct contact for coaches looking to recruit our players.  Bob has a wealth of knowledge in both the academic and baseball communities.  

Bob played his collegiate baseball at McDaniel College where he was a 3 year starter, earning all conference honors as a senior.

After college Laffey enter the coaching world with separate high school coaching positions which led him to a teaching career at Bel Air HS. While attending graduate school at Johns Hopkins he joined the coaching staff from 2007-2010. These years included four regional championship appearances and two trips to the D3 World Series, including a national runner up in 2008.

Laffey made his way back to the high school ranks eventually coaching at Severn School in Severna Park, Md. from 2014-2022 a tenure that saw two trips to the MIAA B conference title game, mentorship of college-bound athletes, and relationships that have grown larger than the game of baseball.

Laffey and his family move back to the Maryland after a brief return to the Philadelphia area where he most recently served as the assistant coach at Tower Hill School in Wilmington, De.  He will be back in Maryland later this summer as a faculty member at Indian Creek School.

2027 Team - Beau Brown & Bob Lamb

Beau Brown has been a staple in the local baseball community for several years now. Coach Brown has previously coached the Kent Island 10U and has been with the Rawlings A’s Prospects for the past three season’s coaching the 11U, 12U and 13U Prospects. Coach Brown led the inaugural visit of the Rawlings A’s Prospects 12U visit to Cooperstown Dream Park. Coach Brown led our 2018-2019 13u team to a very strong season earning high accolades from Perfect Game Top 50 teams.

Bob Lamb has over 30 years of coaching experience including time coaching in college and high school. Bob served on the high school staff at Annapolis and South River and at Essex community college. In addition, he has coached at various youth programs around the state, the most recent as, the head coach for the SYRA 14u who won the 2018 CBA Championship

2026 Team - Miguel Santa & Will Parker Jr.

Miguel Santa is a graduate of Drexel University with a Master’s Degree in Sports Management. Along with a strong sports academic background, he brings over 12 years of youth and high school baseball coaching and teaching experience from the Philadelphia and Suburban Pennsylvania area. From 2019-2021, he enhanced his coaching skills by teaching and training elite athletes at the Maplezone Sports Institute (now Ascent Athlete) as the head coach of the 9u, 11u, 16u Blue and 22u Black Teams. His teams competed in and won a championship in his tenure there. He brings competitive baseball experience as well as player development acumen to the program.

 
Will Parker Jr. joins the program with vast baseball experience. As a graduate of Bowie High School class of 2003, he was a rock steady middle infielder for the #2 Ranked High School Baseball program in the nation. He played in college for UNCC and at Anne Arundel Community College. The former Bulldog, also currently serving as MPDC's finest, rekindled his love for the game a few years ago and entered the coaching scene to develop our young players of tomorrow. 

 

 

 

 

2025 Team - Matt Shin & George Gaylord

Coach Shin has been involved with youth and high school baseball for over 7 years and has coached various age levels within our program. Most recently he served as our 2023 head coach and currently serves as our Director of Player Development. Coach Shin is a graduate from Arundel High School and the University of Maryland where he served as a player / coach on the UMD Club Baseball team. Coach Shin’s players have experiences tremendous growth under his guidance and have found success both on and off the field. The high school coaching staff will provide assistance to the staff with practice and developmental training.

PITCHING COORDINATOR - BRENDAN McGOWAN

Brendan McGowan – former all MET player at Archbishop Spalding high school and pitcher at Catholic University. Pitching coordinator for the Rawlings A’s Prospects Prep team. Current Vice President of Baseball Operation for the Rawlings A’s Prospects and head coach of the Rawlings 16u.

rly played centerfield for the University of Maryland and was the 2018 Big Ten Network Defensive Player of the year!! Zach has previously coached the Rawlings A’s Prospects 2022 Team.

8U - Robert Ladia

9U - David Hicks

We are excited for the inaugural season of our 7u team!! Coach Hicks has years of coaching experince on every level.  He returns to the 7u age group to teach the game the right way so the players develop a love and their talents at the same time.  

10U - Justino Lopez

Justino is our Youth Baseball Director where he has oversight for the player development of our 7U-12U teams. Justino instituted the first Rawlings Prospects 7U team in 2020 and he brings a disciplined approach to coaching where he reinforces life lessons, on and off the field.   Justino organizes several youth baseball clinics for many local players. He brings 12+ years of youth baseball coaching experience.

Justino played his High School baseball in Columbus, Georgia. He graduated from Fort Valley State University and commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army in 2001. While assigned to Fort Benning, Georgia, Justino played one season with the Opelika Indians, an amateur adult baseball team in Alabama, before deciding to make the Army his career. 

11U - Kevin Rotondo

Kevin Rotondo has years of experience coaching youth baseball from t-ball all the way up to 13U.  Coach Rotondo focuses on teaching the mechanics of baseball as well as preparing them with the skills necessary to play in future age groups.  Coach Rotondo is dedicated to helping players achieve their goals and to help players develop their skills and reach their full potential.  

12U - Adam Tomas

12U - Billy Largent

All county outfielder at north county high school graduated in 2003. Was a 2 year starter at Catonsville community college in outfield and also was a one year starter at tennesse weslyn college. Have been coaching for 4 years.

13U - Derrick Dawson

13U - Bernie Granzow / Brady O'Neil

Bernie Granzow – played his high school baseball at the prestige’s DeMatha Catholic and graduated in 1997. Immediately after high school Coach Granzow started his coaching career at St. Joseph’s Catholic grade school and throughout the Bowie baseball organizations. Coach Granzow has coached at numerous age levels brining a strong focus on fundamentals and player development.

 

14U - Tim Rathell / Joe McVay / Julian Ayers

Tim Rathell has years of experience coaching youth baseball at all age levels. For several years he coached our 12u head coach. Coach Rathell focuses on teaching the game the “right way”, win a lot of games, and help your player develop fully and reach his baseball goals.
